Blaine Sophomore Tragically Killed in Alleged DUI Collision

|

The Facts of the Matter

At around 6:36 pm on March 20, 2020, Anthony “Tony” Janisch was tragically struck and killed by an intoxicated driver while riding his bicycle. According to the Anoka County Sheriff’s office, Janisch was accompanied by two others on the intersection of NE 129th Avenue and NE Lincoln Street when a Saab heading westbound collided head-on with the young teenager. First responders tried exhaustively to resuscitate the teen, but he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at the scene of the crime.

The silver Saab sustained significant front-end damage following the event of the crash, and its driver sustained a few injuries.

After the DUI Collision

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Daniel Aaron Rodman of Blaine, was leaving from having several drinks at a friend’s home after work. In response to testing, Rodman demonstrated poor balance, an inability to perform remedial movements, and his preliminary breath test registered a BAC of 0.11 percent. Officers also reported the smell of marijuana emanating from the suspect, however, he declined these accusations.

In addition, a drug recognition expert was called by authorities to examine Rodman’s condition. The expert concluded that Rodman was “unable to safely operate a motor vehicle due to being under the influence of marijuana and/or prescription drugs and alcohol.” Rodman was then booked into the Anoka County jail with pending charges of vehicular manslaughter and a $150,000 bail.

As a result, Rodman has been convicted of DWI, driving with an expired registration, driving with an expired driver’s license, driving with a suspended license, possessing a weapon without a permit, and domestic assault.

After the accident, friends of Tony Janisch have set up a GoFundMe account to help raise money for his family during this unbearable time. He is survived by his parents, Jason and Jennifer Janisch, his brothers Tyler, Tim, Trae, and Tanner, and his sister Olivia.
