Los Angeles County Holiday Dui Stats

|

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, law enforcement agencies arrested 2,268 people on suspicion of driving under the influence this holiday season in Los Angeles County.

This number is up 100 from a year ago when law enforcement agencies conducted a similar crackdown. As I warned in previously posts, the arrests were made at sobriety checkpoints and saturation patrols that spanned from December 13th to New Year’s Day.

While holiday season DUIs may be up, New Year’s DUIs were down from last year. Statewide, CHP officers arrested 324 suspected drunk drivers between 6pm New Year’s Eve and 6am New Year’s morning. This was 10 less than last year. In Los Angeles County, CHP arrested 76 people on suspicion of driving under the influence, seven less than last year during the 12 hour span.

There were five fatalities reported statewide during the 12 hour span, although none occurred in Los Angeles County. During the same time last year there were four reported fatalities statewide.

The reported numbers are provisional and may change.

Let’s hope that California sees less DUI arrests in 2014. That can be done if you make it your New Year’s resolution to drive sober and make sure that others do the same.
