A Montana woman was arrested for driving under the influence after she called 911 to say that she was so intoxicated that she could not exit her vehicle.
On Tuesday, October 8th, Carol Frances Omeara of Billings, Montana, called 911 saying that she was unable to get out of her vehicle. The dispatcher asked her if she was having medical or mechanical issues. According to court records, Omeara responded, “No, I’m just too damn drunk.”
Officers found Omeara, 55, inside her vehicle, parked approximately two feet from the curb. She told responding officers shat she drank a pint of vodka during a five-hour binge at a bar before driving home. She also told them that she had been trapped in her vehicle for about four hours before calling 911 for help getting out of her car.
When officers arrived, the keys to her vehicle were found in her pocket.
Omeara agreed to give a breath sample and it was determined that her blood alcohol level was 0.311 percent, nearly four times the legal limit. It makes me wonder what her BAC level was when she was driving four hours earlier.
According to prosecutors, Omeara has three prior DUI convictions in California making this her fourth. As a result, the Yellowstone County Justice Court Judge Larry Herman set bond at $3,000 and Omeara was remanded to custody.
Let this be a reminder that alcohol impairs the most basic of motor functions including those required to exit a vehicle. And with a blood alcohol content of 0.311 percent, it most certainly impairs rational thought, such as calling the police when drunk in the driver’s seat of a vehicle.
