“D.U.I.” Reality Show

|

Even I’ll admit that sometimes it’s just easier to watch TV than to read. Sometimes, it’s the morning news instead of the morning paper. Other times, it’s a movie instead of a novel. While I encourage you to continue reading this blog, you might want to tune into TLC on Thursday, June 28 at 7 p.m. Pacific time.

A documentary-style reality show similar to “COPS” entitled “D.U.I.” will begin airing on TLC later this month. The show, in its second season, will play six episodes over three weeks. Unlike “COPS”, “D.U.I.” will follow the actual suspects arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, alcohol or a combination of both through all phases of the DUI legal process including arrest, booking, jail, court appearances and sentencing.

The first episode this season will feature Paul, a pizza delivery man who is pulled over for speeding. Through Paul’s admission and paraphernalia in Paul’s possession, the arresting officer determines that the pizza man was under the influence of marijuana while delivering pizzas. Follow “Pizza Man Paul” as he navigates his way through the DUI process.

If you plan on watching (and I suggest you do) pay attention to whether the show offers any input from defense attorneys, possibly questioning the circumstances surrounding the arrest, the arrest itself, the court proceedings and/or the prosecutor’s case. If this season is anything like last season, the defense attorney perspective may be suspiciously absent.
