Dad Tries to Stop Daughter from Driving Drunk, Gets Run Over By Her

|

Anne Frank once said, “Parents can only give good advice or put [children] on the right paths, but the final forming of a person’s character lies in their own hands.”

Not listening to the advice of her father unfortunately cost Soukvilay Barton her father just two days before Father’s Day.

Witnesses told Riverside police that Barton, 37, had been arguing with family while drinking at their home in the 14000 block of Bush Avenue in Riverside, California. After becoming upset, Barton decided to leave in her BMW convertible.

Barton’s father, Bounmy Rajsombath, 69, attempted to stop Barton from leaving because she had been drinking. Barton ignored her father’s requests and got into her car anyways which was parked in the garage.

Rajsombath then went outside and onto the driveway to continue to dissuade his daughter from driving.

At this point, Barton backed her vehicle out of the garage and struck her father. It is unclear if Barton saw her father when she backed out of the garage.

According to Riverside police, Barton stopped her vehicle, but by then it was too late. Rajsombath was taken to Riverside Community Hospital where he later died. According to witnesses, Barton sat in the front yard sobbing until police arrived.

Barton was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. She is being held on $75,000 bail and faces a range of additional California DUI charges pending further investigation.
