Pilots are under a more strict standard when it comes to getting caught up in a DUI situation. Pilots must report any administrative action or conviction involving DUI.
The typical administrative action would be having your driver’s license suspended or revoked as a result of an action by the state licensing agency. Any type of action affecting your license would require reporting to the FAA. Further, any conviction for DUI/DWI/OUI would also result in a requirement to report the conviction to the FAA.
Under 14 CFR 61.15, all pilots must send a notification letter to FAA’s Security and Investigations Division within 60 calendar days of the effective date of an alcohol-related conviction or administrative action. In 14 CFR 61.15(c), alcohol-related convictions or administrative actions refer to motor vehicle actions (MVA).
