It goes without saying that clothing communicates. However, I don’t think that Ross Allan McMakin intended that his t-shirt tell the officers exactly how drunk he was.
21-year-old McMakin was arrested last week on suspicion of driving under the influence wearing a t-shirt which read, “Drunk as S**t.” I added the asterisks, you can infer the missing letters.
McMakin drove his ex-girlfriend home following a party. Initially McMakin’s ex-girlfriend was to drive home, but couldn’t operate his 1994 Ford Ranger pickup’s stick shift.
McMakin’s ex, who has remained unidentified, said that McMakin had driven on the sidewalk, struck a parked car, and veered into the wrong lane of traffic.
Once at her residence, McMakin’s ex took his keys from him to keep him from driving. That is when she alleged that McMakin followed her inside, slapped her, and strangled her to get his keys back. After he was able to do so, he drove off and she called the cops.
Cops tracked down and arrested McMakin a short time later. It was determined that his blood alcohol content was 0.2 percent, more than twice the legal limit, and proved that his t-shirt didn’t lie.
McMakin faces charges of strangulation, harrassment, reckless endangerment, and of course driving under the influence.
It is unclear if the police booked the t-shirt into evidence as an admission of guilt.
