An Orange County sheriff’s deputy has been convicted of drunken driving for the second time, pleading guilty to driving with a blood-alcohol level three times the legal limit.

A district attorney’s statement says 33-year-old Mario Manuel Castro entered the plea to a pair of misdemeanors and a sentencing enhancement Monday and received 60 days in jail, five years of probation and an order to attend an alcohol offender program.

He also was convicted of DUI in 2009.

Prosecutors say Castro had just left a bar in Costa Mesa where he’d had several drinks while off-duty in September, and was arrested after driving on the wrong side of the road straight at a police officer from the city of Orange.

His blood-alcohol level was .24. The California limit is .08.
