Finding out where police will set up a DUI checkpoint?

|

Police usually set up DUI checkpoints Friday through Sunday.  However, you never know when a DUI checkpoint will appear during this time of year. So, what can you do to determine when and where a DUI checkpoint will be?

The internet is a great source.  You can google, yahoo, or whatever you use to find out when there will be a checkpoint in your area.  If you are traveling, make sure you check the areas along the way to your destination.  You must type "DUI checkpoint" or "sobriety checkpoint" and then click news results.  You can also go to Roadblock.org.  This website does a pretty good job on keeping up with DUI checkpoints. Every-once-in-awhile I will see a DUI checkpoint advertised on a local news station.  If you are looking for DUI checkpoints on your local news, it would be best to watch the morning news.  This is probably the most likely time they would advertise the checkpoint. Your local newspaper is another good source for finding DUI checkpoints. Because police are required to publish when and where the set up checkpoints, the police use newspaper for their court required publishing. There will be plenty of DUI checkpoints during the holiday season.  But, remember what I warned in my prior blog. If you are driving in between the hours of 6 pm and 4 am, police are looking to stop those drivers who happen to be driving near a bar. Pay attention to how you drive.  They are looking for just the smallest swerve of your vehicle.  Don’t give them an excuse.
