Two People Killed in Fatal Wrong-Way DUI Crash on I-680

|

The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating a horrific accident that claimed the life of two Antioch residents on Sunday, last week. The accident occurred on Interstate Highway 680 at approximately 3:45 a.m. Allegedly, a drunk driver identified as 27-year-old Camille Veraanne Kimball drove her 2020 Ford Fusion southbound in the northbound lane after leaving her friend’s house.

According to reports, Kimball collided head-on with a Honda after losing control of her vehicle. Unfortunately, the impact of the crash was deadly. Both occupants of the Honda—Nettie Perkett (driver) and Taurean Lee (passenger) suffered from severe trauma and died as a result. Emergency personnel determined that both victims suffered from brain paralysis before succumbing to their injuries.

Following the incident, authorities arrested Kimball on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol level in excess of the legal limit. Her bail is set at $2.6 million, and she remains in custody at the county jail.

California law allows prosecutors to file murder charges in drunk-driving cases if they can prove the defendant knew their behavior would likely be fatal. Death of victims in cases like this underscores the dangers of drinking and driving.
