Sacramento DUI Crash Kills One Passenger and Severely Injures Other

|

On Saturday, April 18th, a suspected drunk driver crashed his car on Highway 160 in Sacramento, resulting in the death of one passenger and seriously injuring another.

CHP received a call about a vehicle crashed into a tree on the highway just north of Canterbury Road. Officers were then dispatched to the scene at approximately 10:20 a.m. When they arrived, they found the driver outside of the vehicle, while the two other occupants were trapped in the wreckage. Authorities later found that the passengers were not wearing seatbelts during the time of the crash.

All three of the victims—the driver Mark Grosvenor, 34, passenger Anthony Jones, 26, and passenger Sonciera Dejarnette Bomar-Royal, 43—were taken to a hospital with major injuries.

According to the CHP, Bomar-Royal succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead by medical examiners shortly after 1 p.m. Further information regarding Anthony Jones’ condition was not immediately available.

Grosvenor gave officers a brief statement of the events leading up to the incident before authorities transported him to the hospital. Officers then determined that Grosvenor drove while under the influence, putting him, his passengers, and other drivers at risk. Subsequently, authorities placed him under arrest. However, he currently remains in the care of the hospital’s trauma staff due to the severity of his injuries and COVID-19 protocols.

He was charged with suspicion of driving under the influence. Once the CHP completes their investigation, further charges may be made.
