Dennis Rodman Sentenced On Dui Conviction

|

This past Monday, basketball Hall of Famer, Dennis Rodman, pleaded guilty to driving under the influence in Newport Beach.

Rodman was arrested by Newport Beach Police Department on January 13th on suspicion of driving under the influence after he was stopped on a traffic violation. The arrest came just three days after he provided proof that he completed court-ordered community service for a hit-and-run collision he caused in July of 2016. According to prosecutors, Rodman’s blood alcohol content was later determined to be 0.12 percent, nearly three times the legal limit of 0.08 percent.

Rodman pleaded guilty to two counts of DUI for the incident – driving with a 0.08 percent or higher and driving under the influence – which is possible under California law and is not uncommon. He was sentenced to three years of informal probation, ordered to pay fines and fees, and order to complete a nine-month first-offender alcohol program.

The judge in the case stayed 90 days of jail that Rodman will not face should he successfully complete his probation conditions.

According to Rodman’s attorney, Paul S. Meyer, Rodman had already served 30 days in an “intensive treatment” residential drug-and-alcohol rehabilitation program.

“The court made the right call,” said Meyer. “In issuing the sentence, the court recognized Dennis’ intensive inpatient rehabilitation and his commitment to treatment. Dennis has accepted responsibility for his sobriety and has made great progress.”
