An Oregon mom was arrest last week after her son called 911 to report that she was allegedly driving him home from a baseball game while under the influence of alcohol.
Nicole Norris, 30, of Portland, Oregon, was driving her 11-year-old son home from a baseball game when he called 911 at 8:49 p.m. from the back seat of their vehicle last Saturday according to law enforcement.
“He said his mom was drunk driving,” Washington County Deputy Shannon Wilde said. “He wanted our help.”
According to law enforcement, two other drivers had called the police to report that Norris was driving erratically.
Although the 911 call was dropped possibly from Norris telling her son to hang up the phone, law enforcement was able to catch up with Norris near her home at 9:05 p.m. due in part to the landmarks described by her son during the call.
Upon stopping Norris, a breathalyzer revealed that her blood alcohol content was almost twice the legal limit. Law enforcement also conducted field sobriety tests on Norris which, according to police, she failed.
Norris’s son told law enforcement that he observed Norris drinking and was able to describe how she was driving.
“We as a community have a job to keep each other safe and sometimes doing the right thing is a hard decision — like calling on your own parent,” said Washington County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Jeff Talbot. “He [the son] did the right thing to keep himself safe, his mother safe and the public safe. We are very proud of him making such a difficult decision.”
