If There Is A Will There Is A Way

|

A mother in Pennsylvania was determined to drive home despite having had a couple of alcoholic drinks and an ignition interlock device.

Shortly after successfully unlocking the ignition interlock device with the help of her eight-year-old daughter, Angela Daywalt, crashed her car and escaped the scene. Witnesses say that Daywalt told her daughter to breathe into the interlock device. Daywalt was later found in her home and was arrested for drunk driving, endangering a child’s welfare, and traffic infractions.

The ignition interlock device program has been implemented in 28 states throughout the nation. DUI offenders are usually given the interlock for a period of at least six months.

If you breathe into the device and it detects alcohol, then your car will not start.

California legislature passed a bill that would require ignition interlock devices for DUI offenders. The DMV released a report that found ignition interlock devices to be more successful than license suspension.

Despite the success of interlock devices, people always seem to find a way to bypass the rules. If you are drinking and thinking of driving, remember to always have a designated driver or call a ride share.
